IAAO Award Spotlight Leon County Earns Top Recognition for Public Information Program The Public Information Program Award was awarded this year to Leon County! In 2023, Leon County achieved remarkable milestones through its public information efforts setting new benchmarks for public outreach and enhancing public comprehension of the assessment process.

As part of their comprehensive strategy, Leon County participated in 27 homebuyer education workshops, 14 community festivals and 17 events targeting key demographics Information Technology and Public Relations Departments worked collaboratively to launch a redesigned website, expand existing E-file services, host community events and workshops and to produce engaging social media content.

One of the main goals of this redesign was a refreshed public website that provided compatibility with mobile and desktop devices, while enhancing the services and functionality to improve the user experience. The search function was upgraded and they added a property fraud alert function. In addition, they transferred website hosting from a third party to a county-provided resource which provided a cost savings of $22,000 annually.

This award is presented to an assessment jurisdiction that has developed and implemented an effective system for distributing information to taxpayers and other stakeholders. Congratulations, Hon. Akin Akinyemi and his staff on this recognition!
