INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE REPORT
Another large contingent of Floridians just returned home from Sacramento, California - site of the 2014 IAAO Annual Conference. As a past Florida Chapter President, and IAAO Executive Board Member it always makes me proud to see that Florida is a strong, powerful and important part of the IAAO Mission.
Currently, I have the privilege of Chairing the IAAO International Committee. Newly formed in 2013, the committee is charged with increasing global awareness of IAAO's programs, education and networking opportunities. The 2014 conference included IAAO members
Dorothy Jacks, AAS, CFE
from Australia, China, Iceland, South Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Pakistan, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States. One of the largest international attendee contingents in years, the conference was filled with opportunities to learn from and get to know our international friends.
In addition to many excellent education sessions from international presenters, the 1,000+ conference attendees heard a presentation on Wal-Mart's international reach, including their diverse presence in over 27 countries. Wal-Mart's name is US-only, in other countries it is known by other names and works to provide a shopping experience that it tailored to the culture and traditions of the different countries where it exists.
Representatives from IAAO also met with representatives from the South African province of Kwazulu-Natal in north eastern South Africa. Kwazulu-Natal is the second largest of nine
providences in South Africa with a population of over 10 million, their representatives are looking to use IAAO guidance and standards as the benchmark for their property valuation process. Through cooperative agreements with IAAO, Kawazulu-Natal will become another international tax assessment body that can utilize IAAO materials, training and resources as they build their tax systems.
Another exciting development was discussions with members from south Asia about the possibility of
Members of the South African Delegation meet with IAAO President Marty Marshall, Vice President Pete Rodda and other IAAO Committee representa- tives and staff
