COUNTY SPOTLIGHT: MANATEE COUNTY

Tropicana. Manatee County is the spring training home of the Pittsburgh Pirates and is also home to IMG Acade- mies, where students from around the world train and learn soccer, tennis, basketball, baseball, football and golf. Manatee County Property Appraiser Charlie Hackney, was first elected to office in 1992. The office has 61 full time employees and the county now has over 201,000 real property parcels and a current taxable value of over $45 Billion. Currently, only about half the county is de- veloped. Most of the eastern part of Manatee County is dominated by large parcels of farmland. However, that is changing rapidly as over 3,000 new homes per year have been added to the tax roll over the last five years. We are a very busy agency working to keep pace with a very rap- idly growing county.
