2022 IAAO CONFERENCE RECAPCONT… FCIAAO SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

Thank you to FCIAAO for selecting me as a recipient of the IAAO Annual Confer- ence Scholarship. The conference was my first and an enriching experience that broadened my perspective and chal- lenged me to grow professionally. I attended some very informative ses- sions and learned from the best in the industry. It was interesting to see how different jurisdictions operate and what innovative tools they are currently using. So much has improved in just the 12 short years since I have joined the Hills- borough County Property Appraiser ’ s Of- fice. I was fortunate to have met like- minded individuals from our industry that are driven and continuously looking for ways to make a difference in this world. Participating in the roundtable discussions introduced new ideas that can be implemented for the betterment of our agency, the citizens we serve, and motivated me to want to become more

involved. One of the many highlights was attend- ing the opening ceremony and listening to the mo- tivational keynote speaker Adrianne Haslet, 2013 Marathon bombing survivor, tell her story. Her speech was a genuinely moving experience. By the time she finished, I don ’ t believe there was a dry eye in the room. If I could offer one suggestion to agency leaders, it would be to allow their non - leadership staff mem- bers the opportunity to attend future conferences. It would be beneficial for their jurisdictions, as the exposure provides useful knowledge that can be taken back and applied in the organization ’ s daily operations. I would highly encourage anyone in the assessment world to attend an annual confer- ence, and strongly recommend that those who haven ’ t been apply for a scholarship and be given an opportunity to attend one. This event was such an eye opener for me, a watershed moment in my career, and an experience that I will remember for the rest of my life.
