What is some of the best career advice you can give? This is an age-old adage that doesn’t fall squarely in the career advice category, but when I was around 10 years old, I had a neighbor who was a carpenter who told me to measure twice, and cut once. Actually, he told me to measure six times and use the one that matched the most… I mean, I was only 10! (My first lesson in Mean Median, and Mode?) But the concept stuck and applies to what we do at the PA’s office. Whether it is verifying Exemptions, sales for the ratio study, sketching additions, or adding new construction, it is our fiduciary responsibility to the taxpayers to double check our work and get it right the first time.

Why did you want to serve on the FCIAAO Board? The Florida Chapter, and by extension the Board, has done a fantastic job over the years, providing its membership with memorable conferences and educational content, not to mention distinguishing FCIAAO on the International stage. As a member, I felt highly motivated to join and provide whatever help I could to support the Board and uphold its’ proud traditions. I am truly honored that I have been given the opportunity to serve.

Do you live by any particular mantra? There are a couple, with the newest being about zipping up the bee Suit. But I’ve always been partial to “Work Smarter not Harder” – Dad, “To improve is to Change…” – Winston Churchill, “Always pass on what you have learned” - Yoda and “Changes in Latitude, Changes in Attitude” - Jimmy Buffet. To distill that into a mantra – Don’t be afraid to explore new ideas and methods to make things better, and share the ones that work. Also, don’t forget to have fun because ”If we couldn't laugh we just would go insane.“

I was struck by the unique challenges faced by appraisers from different jurisdictions and the innovative approaches they used to overcome them. Many jurisdictions in Florida already use resources such as PowerBI, EagleView, NearMap, and tablets but the
